GLASSBUILD AMERICA 2008—A PLEASANT SURPRISE
WASHINGTON, DC, October 16, 2008—GlassBuild America: The Glass, Window & Door Expo hit the jackpot at its event sponsored by the National Glass Association (NGA), Glass Association of North America (GANA), the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA), the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA) and the Bath Enclosure Manufacturers Association (BEMA), held October 6-8 in Las Vegas. With a total of 8,019 verified visitors and a total of 9,292 registered, GlassBuild America was a success.
The show hosted 485 exhibiting companies occupying 161,100 square feet of exhibit space. The three-day event also featured many educational opportunities, such as NGA’s Glazing Executives Forum, AAMA’s Architects of a Better Mind program, seminars for the residential window and door and retail glass segments, and a live blast demonstration sponsored by GANA.
GlassBuild America also hosted the American Master Installer Championship with the winner, Jeff Olive, being announced on the show floor. Jeff Olive and second runner up, Randy Layton will be traveling to Düsseldorf, Germany, this month, where Olive will represent the United States in the International Master Fitter Competition held in conjunction with glasstec Oct. 21-25.
"We are so pleased with the turnout this year," states Denise Sheehan, NGA VP of Industry Events. "We had 9,000 or so visitors registered to come this year, with 8,000 of them actually coming and walking the aisles--it's definitely a sign of the current economic times that not everyone was able to join us this year, but we had 8,000 decision-makers in the aisles and a lot of happy exhibitors."
Even with the state of the economy, the mood was light, many exhibitors and attendees were surprised by the turnout and the uplifting mood that filled the Las Vegas Convention Center.
"All the exhibitors at the show were concerned about turnout this year given the down economy. However, the show has surpassed 150% of my expectation. Attendance has been great and ALL of us in the booth have been swamped from the moment the show opens to the moment the show closes. It seems that everyone wants to be in the Edgetech booth," said Mike Hovan, Edgetech, I.G.

GlassBuild America 2009 will be held September 30-October 2 in Atlanta.
